The Awesome of Saturday: Love Never Lost
Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 06:22 PM CST [Shamanism]
In perfect follow-up to my previous two entries, Dance Of The Divine Feminine (describing the concept of birefringence as it pertains to the second of my shaman stones) and Witch's Shofar (which rests between the two entries describing my first and second shaman stones, and tells of my encounter with a deer Erev Rosh Hashanah) comes my entry regarding my third shaman stone. It is a Deer Creek fire agate (shown below). She is associated with Gwenhwyfar, whom in ancient Celtic is described as sacred love. "Gwenhwyfar of the deer glance" [see my entry Witch's Shofar]. In Native American tradition, she comes forth to tell you that you are loved. To remember that when life presses hard upon you and you feel no love, that somewhere in time you have been loved before. And so too you shall be loved again, someone shall look upon you with eyes of total and enduring devotion, union of soul and spirit, Divine love yes, but human love too [here's the birefringence concept again] in its highest form.

Janet Jackson has been hospitalized with an undisclosed illness, resulting in the abrupt cancellation of last night’s (September 29) “Rock Witchu Tour” Montreal show. A representative for the pop star confirmed she suddenly became ill while completing a routine sound check. The cancellation was announced to disappointed fans just minutes before LL Cool J’s opening set. This marks Jackson’s second “Rock Witchu Tour” cancellation in three days, as last Friday (September 27) the singer nixed a show due to “production budget constraints.” At press time, Jackson, who recently severed ties with Island/Def Jam, remains in stable condition Bienvenidos a mi lindo blog.

Baseball Playoffs-Non Playoffs
Tuesday, September 30, 2008, 07:12 PM EST [General]
Major League Baseball might have the dumbest tie-breaking formula in all ofmajor sports. The Chicago White Sox and Minnesota Twins finished the season (kind of) with identical records. Minnesota was 10-8 against the White Sox through 162 games. Logic says the Twins should win the division. Sometimes the MLB doesn't operate on logic. MLB says that the two teams must play one more game, tonight (Tuesday) to decide who wins the AL Central. OK, then the Twins should at least host the deciding game right? Wrong. Baseball decided that home-field should be decided by a coin flip. The reason? They needed to know, for logistics, where the game would be played if necessary three weeks ago before the teams had finished playing each other. Sure, it is much easier for a team to be able to sell tickets three weeks in advance of a game that may or may not be played. But the teams finished play a week ago. That would give the Twins plenty of time to sell tickets to a game that wasn't even for sure going to be played until YESTERDAY, the day AFTER the regular season ended. And so what if two teams play each other the last weekend of the season? Let both teams sell tickets and the one who loses out can just buy them back or allow for refunds the following year. However, that isn't even the weirdest, or dumbest, part of this debacle. Technically, tonight's game is a regular season game. That's right, it's not a play-in game, or a one game playoff. It is game number 163 (home game number 82 for the White Sox). One of the beauties of baseball is that there are 162 games. It's not a sprint, it's a marathon. Over the course of 162 games, we should be able to determine who is the better team. You can't hide a weakness for that long. After 162 games this season, Minesota is better than Chicago. It's that simple. As an impartial observer, if one teams beats another 10 out of 18 times, they are the better team. Baseball should recognize that. If Chicago wins tonight, they will be 10-9 against Minnesota this year, and the Twins will STILL be the better team. Regardless of tonight's outcome, the Twins should be in the playoffs. Guess who? None other than Lindsay Lohan & Samantha Ronson in Mexico! A lil getaway?!?
Jennifer Aniston soaks in the sun on a beach in Los Cabos, Mexico. Does she look good here? I'm hearing some mixed reviews?! Here is your first glimpse of DJ AM since the fatal plane crash. The 35-year-old, whose real name is Adam Goldstein, stepped out to attend a memorial service for Travis Barker's assistant, Chris Baker. Mourners were asked to wear green to the service, which was held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hollywood. Check out this sneak peak of the High School Musical 3: Senior Year cast getting ready for prom in the "A Night To Remember" music video. There was a spark of recognition...
Wednesday, October 1, 2008, 12:07 AM GMT [Creative Writing]
I logged on to 'My Telegraph' because I was curious to hear the Alexander McCall Smith e-book "Corduroy Mansions". I'm downloading each chapter as it becomes available but haven't listened to any yet. However, having reached the McCall Smith page I clicked through to the details about his competition and found, to my great interest, that there's an active community of writers who a) regularly share their work and b) are up for a challenge. I've read a few paragraphs of Goth Queen's work and a bit of Anthony Saunders' first chapter, but nothing else as yet. Entering the competition is, I think, a tall order for me at my present stage of commitment to creative writing. At the moment I tend to write on an old IBM Thinkpad in the late evening when my wife is using our main computer in another room. For the first time ever my scribbles have actually developed into a story that I think might have some legs. The characters and some of the plot themes are coalescing in my imagination. I've got a first chapter that I'm happy with at the moment, which I'm sharing with you as my first blog post. I'd appreciate some comments please if you can find the time to give me your thoughts. I know that I have a long way to go. If I actually finish the story, I shall probably have to do a couple of re-writes. At the moment I'm concentrating on narrative and plot at the expense of scene setting and descriptions. I shall need to flesh out the lives of my characters so that their motives and emotions are given depth. I think I would find my first effort unsatisfactory if these elements were significantly absent. Anyway, here's chapter one of the story... Tom Payne was leaning on the mahogany theatre bar. He had just picked up his drink, a slimline tonic with ice and lemon - he didn't want anything too heavy and he was not in the mood for serious drinking. He didn't think he'd be staying long. He'd got a home to drive to and more work to do when he got there. His over-stuffed briefcase was on the floor by his feet and he felt just a little weary. It had been another long day in the local Crown Court working on a particularly difficult brief. The bar was crowded with theatre patrons, drinks in hands, animated in lively conversation. It was interesting to see the mix of local society and to note that some people still made an effort to dress for the theatre, making an occasion of it, whilst others...well, just didn't. He liked to be smartly turned out when he was on public view-he was a professional and he needed to look professional. Tonight, however, he couldn't wait to get out of his sharply-pressed, Savile Row-tailored blue pin-striped suit and his black leather Oxfords. He lazily turned to look around, scanning the room with an eye that was much practiced in observing people and human nature. He was hoping to see Joe Carter, an old friend and former colleague. He'd bumped into him in the Crown Court earlier in the week. It was fortunate that they were not on opposite sides. Meeting him again had brought back some good memories of vigorous debates at Oxford, where they had adjoining rooms in College. They'd taken Silk in the same Chambers and both had chosen to specialise in criminal law. He was thinking that it wouldn't be long before the bar would empty as patrons took their seats. The evening performance of The Merchant of Venice would be starting in twenty minutes. It looked as though he would have little opportunity to do more than arrange to meet Joe at a more convenient time. Perhaps they could have a meal together before Joe's case finished and he had to return to Lewes? He hoped that he had not wasted his time coming. Had Joe already taken his seat, he wondered? As he gazed intently towards the doors through which he expected Joe to enter, a sixth sense made the back of his neck tingle. He suddenly became intensely aware of the woman standing next to him. He'd noticed her, of course, when he finally made it to a space at the bar and found himself standing next to her. The perfume she was wearing was subtly intrusive and pleasantly sensual. His first impressions were good. In fact, very good. She had both presence and poise. A glass of white wine in her hand was held with an easy grace and she was wearing clothes that were more understated than ordinary. But now, he had a sense that she was studying him...he eased round to face in her direction and briefly glanced towards her. Their eyes met and locked. There was an instant spark of recognition, yet he was sure he didn't know her! Suddenly it was as though they were no longer strangers. They looked at each other for what seemed a timeless moment - then she broke the ice. "Have we met before?" She tilted her head quizzically. "You look familiar. I feel I should know you from somewhere..." "I don't think so," he replied with a smile. "You don't look like the sort of woman I would ever forget." He cringed inside as he thought "What a corny line!" Completely composed, she received the compliment with grace, tilted her head back slightly and smiled. "I really did think that I knew you from somewhere" she said, a slight coolness in her tone. "I'm not trying to score." "Of course not. I never imagined that you were. But I had started to hope that this conversation might be going somewhere interesting. Can I get you another drink or something else perhaps?" His banter was impishly challenging, and slightly delicious. He couldn't resist flirting with her; she was, after all, really rather attractive. He wondered who she was and was she alone. "I'm afraid not. As you can see, I've got one already." Was that a put down? Perhaps not. Her tone of voice hadn't altered. "I noticed," he said. "Perhaps another time?" It was called a leading question in the trade and often not allowed, but he wanted to see where it might take him. "There isn't time - the performance will be starting soon. And anyway, it might be a bit awkward. I'm with someone tonight and he'll be here soon." She raised her glass and sipped the wine. He was conscious of an intense awareness of the shape of her mouth, the nape of her neck, the delicately golden glow of her skin and of every detail of her face. What was going on? It had been ages since he had felt this instant attraction to someone. But what if there had been ‘time' - her reply clearly left the door open for another meeting. His mind latched onto the subtle significance of the word "tonight" - perhaps her companion was a colleague and not the ubiquitous boyfriend! He began to think that an interesting stage in his life might be about to start. He still had a few moments to claim her attention and develop the conversation. Did he want to. Why not. "I'm afraid that I can't stay to watch the play. I've got people to see and things to do. I just stopped by on the off-chance of seeing an old friend for a few minutes. He said he'd got tickets for tonight and suggested that I tried to get one too but that wasn't feasible - so I thought I'd make an effort to come along in case we could chat for a bit before the performance. I can't see him yet. I hope I haven't missed him?" "I hope you haven't, for your sake," she said. "It's a shame you haven't got a ticket. The performance will be starting soon and this cast have had very good reviews." She hoped that her interest in him wasn't too blatant. She knew, instinctively, that she liked him. She didn't know why, or what it was that made him seem so familiar to her. And she really did wish that she could continue their chat. But he hadn't got a ticket, so he wouldn't be staying long, and he was waiting to meet his friend. "Do you like theatre very much?" she asked, "I'm really looking forward to this production. I haven't seen "The Merchant" since I did it for "A" levels." "I am quite fond of theatre" Tom replied. "The Merchant is really quite an appropriate theme for someone in my line of business. I think the last play that I went to was by Agatha Christie - going to see whodunits is a bit like a busman's holiday for me. I sometimes wish I was more adventurous but finding the time is the problem." &n i am cool

Ok, so I did a movie in late August for something called the Film Race. All the teams had 24 hours to write, shoot, edit, and turn in a movie. Now my movie was picked as one of the top 9 of the city and people can vote on it. The problem is, there were only 4 people on the entire cast and crew for filming. So we're already down when it comes to votes compared to everyone else that had full casts and crews. Been a LONG time
